Fighting Erupts in Falluja After Nightfall

Explosions shook Fallujah after dark Tuesday as new fighting erupted, and a U.S. AC-130 gunship hammered targets in the city.

More: U.S. helicopter gunships and artillery began shelling targets within the besieged city of Al Fallujah -- reportedly the Golan (al Jalem) district of northwest Al Fallujah -- on April 27. Reports indicate counterfire was heard from areas within the city. U.S. Marines are also reportedly engaged in firefights on the ground and are backed by U.S. Psychological Operations teams. Mosques in Al Fallujah are continuing to broadcast verses of the Koran during the fighting.
