Top officials blocked plan for Syria raids

UPI: In the waning days of major combat in Iraq, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Bush's chief domestic adviser Karl Rove, and Secretary of State Colin Powell stopped proposed plans for forays into Syria for apprehension of Iraqis who had fled to Syria.

The original plans had been drawn up by undersecretary of defense for policy Doug Feith and had been approved by Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld.

One comment included is this gem, offered by a "senior administration official:" ""Rice's message was quite succinct: There will be no further military adventures during the remainder of the president's first term."
