Previous Entry | Main | Next Entry February 08, 2003 OUTRAGE PART 2 George Paine of War Blogging has an excellent updated post on Patriot Act 2 that everyone should read. If you are not a regular reader of his site you should be. Go there now! UPDATE: The Agora sees a conspiracy. The Storm has a nice visual. Cobb doesn't like it either. But the Right? Well, they are silent. Figures. UPDATE 2: The Liberty Dogs don't like it and promise a post soon. Oliver Willis says "some on the Right hate the Constitution." He's correct. Why do they? Colin Powell cited a "fine paper that the United Kingdom distributed... which describes in exquisite detail Iraqi deception activities" in his U.N. speech. Turns out this wonderful dossier is nothing better than a shoddy piece of plagiarism. It was culled from academic articles published years ago, including an article by Ibrahim al-Marashi which appeared in the Middle East Review of International Affairs last September. Cambridge University academic Glen Rangwala notes, "Apart from passing this off as the work of its intelligence services, it indicates that the U.K. really does not have any independent sources of information on Iraq's internal policies. It just draws upon publicly available data." Well, at least they recycle!! Posted by: Mike on February 8, 2003 03:04 PMThere's a debate about whether the libertarians will react. Oliver Willis has some links to right-wing posts, apparently. Posted by: John Isbell on February 8, 2003 03:19 PMI just read Part I and Part II. I am scared of this......my thoughts went back to McCarthyism, tribunal courts, loss of freedom. Scares me more than terrorism. Hell, I'd rather die free than try to exist with all of this spying and watching each other. Sounds like a card carrying communistic system to me. The Patriot Act is what we fought against as I was growing up. I am 60 years old. This is an outrage. Posted by: Mike on February 8, 2003 03:20 PMBut the Right? Well, they are silent. Figures. Um, perhaps the Right is intelligent enough to see this for the lead balloon that it is. Simply an internal memo leaked from the low depths of the Justice Department precisely because someone there found it obscenely unconstitutional - as I agree it would be, if it had a snowball's chance in San Antonio of really being instituted. Take a chill pill...no, better make that a double dose. If you were as excited about the yellow Homeland rating, it would be a lot better use of your energy. Posted by: Mark Harden on February 8, 2003 07:41 PM"the yellow Homeland rating" Oops, ORANGE. Right? Posted by: Mark Harden on February 8, 2003 08:00 PMI'm sure you guys would consider me to be on the Right. But, I oppose the Patriot Act and think it is a crock of Sh#t. Bush is heading way in the wrong direction with this. They know who the enemy is and do not need this junk at all. This is another example of Big Brother messing around with law-abiding citizen's life. Posted by: Allen Prather on February 9, 2003 05:15 PMPost a Comment: |
