Visual Support?

Curious what a map of those countries opposing and supporting the war looks like?

Well, wonder no more.

UPDATE: A few Irish commenters are upset that Ireland is painted in totally. There should have been a demarcation of the North. I regret the error. After all, I am Irish by ancestry as well. Call it wishful thinking, ok?

So much for "unilateralism"...or is that "unilateralisme"?

Great work! Well done!

I've been waiting for this to be done by someone. Great job.

One nitpick: I note that Ireland is listed as "neutral". Have you seen the InstaGuy's link to Sjostrom on the Irish yet?

Interesting that Montenegro is shown as a seperate country supporting the war, while Serbia is neutral. Not that I'm criticizing this, as it IS de facto independent. And yeah, I think the Irish will break from their neutrality, too, as will the Finns, probably.

Germany's practically alone. . .

I would imagine that public opinion in each of these countries would make the map look different, but it's governments that decide.

Please change the color Ireland to GREEN. Why did you color the entire island yellow or should Northern Ireland be green too? I can nott wait to show mum.

It would have been easier to show a map of the support for the war by the population rather than their anti-democratic governments. You'd only need one colour for it. Britain is 84% against the war and 9% for it for example.

But the Fourth Reich is opposed to democracy of course.

This post has been duly linked on my blog, listing all the countries by name and closing with the following comment:

"Maybe instead of expanding NATO the US should join a reinstated Warsaw Pact (minus Russia and Belarus)."

I'm sure I'd be popular at the embassy parties :-)

Interesting map, but it would mean more if you said something about your sources and definitions.

For one thing, I hear that in the countries "supporting" the war, there's often a wide gap between public opinion and the policy of the currently ruling party. That's true even in Britain, where Tony Blair is Bush's strongest supporter but has little support from his own people.

Is it significant that Socrates is getting ready to kill himself in your graphic?

Don't get me wrong, though.
I appreciate the reference to ancient wisdom.
