I guess I could say I told you so. But wait, I wouldn't exactly be correct. Although the spirit of the words would be correct the letters aren't. (What syntax!)
What am I talking about? Well, if you'll remember yesterday's late post, "Marketing 101," you'll recall this comment: This is what this Administration does. If they can't sell you something for one reason, say, like a tax cut because "it's the people's money" they will sell it to you for another reason like, "yeah, that's it, uh-huh, maybe we need it to help the economy recover." It doesn't matter why they sell it to you, it matters because it's their policy. And you are going to buy it!
But really, I didn't expect it to happen in one day. Good grief. This Administration's duplicity and arrogance know no bounds. Yeah, I know I sound like a ranting lunatic when I say that but it is true.
Let's recount, again:
On September 12, President George Bush speaks at the U.N. and says, "Are Security Council resolutions to be honoured and enforced or cast aside without consequence?"
And this: "We want the resolutions of the world's most important multilateral body to be enforced. And right now those resolutions are being unilaterally subverted by the Iraqi regime."
And this: "My nation will work with the UN Security Council to meet our common challenge?"
Ok, I hear you saying, "yeah, uh-huh, so what?"
Get this: Colin Powell said tonight that any search of Sadaam's arsenals should be "delayed until the Security Council approves a "new, strong, tough resolution."
What? How's that?
Wait, I'm confused . . . . really, I am.
So what is the strategy now? To inspect or not to inspect?
I told you so. Because Bush is doing what he does best. If you're playing ball his way and he starts to lose he a.) either changes the rules or b.) quits.
But we all know that The Administration cannot quit. So they are trying another tack. Bush didn't get outmaneuvered, like I said last night, he got played. Pure and simple. By the French, the Russians and the Iraqis. And now that they've been played the Administration is squealing like a South Texas feral hog after he's been stuck with a branding iron.
What is wrong with these guys? I am not opposed to the war as yet (although I am fast getting there). But I am disgusted by their amateurish attempts at diplomacy. Remember, this is supposed to be the "Dream Team." I think it's time to call in Jordan (Michael, that is).
So how are they going to sell this lemon to the world?
I don't know, but I do care, because it's this great nation's credibility that is on the line.
Their arrogance and rank stupidity has alienated our allies, angered our competitors and confused the public. Their continued inattention to the sliding global economy threatens our prosperity, Rumsfeld's frontal assault against some of his own generals in Congress prevents the military from being readied for a real fight, and all along the Wolfowitz clique is engaged in a nasty, petty battle against Powell and those they consider "the softies at State".
Great job guys. I think I'll have some more popcorn. And can we please call in the second string?
