Severe Depression-meds Andextremeanxity ?

Q: please son't think this question is stupid. My shrink has tried 10 antidrprestends on me(good spelling) none have worked. has any one ever tried for disability and what was the out come.

A:I too have tried a million different meds- and not much luck. Some people have "difficult to treat Depression". I am still on the fence about going out on disability- but Depression is the number one cause of disability among adults. You should probably get an attorney before you wrangle with SSI. I was on disability for a while in the past. I went on in 1998 I think, maybe 1999. I didn't know anything about the process at all, I just filled out the paperwork. I wasn't eligible for help with the process from the community mental health center, because I wasn't yet on disability--kinda odd if you ask me. I was however told by a caseworker there that I would be automatically rejected the first time, and then I'd just reapply and likely get it. If I hadn't known that, and had been rejected, I'd have likely not bothered to reapply. However, I was accepted the first time around--probably the 13 hospitalizations in one year kind of clinched the deal for me... At any rate, seven out of ten first time applications are rejected. The government figures this will weed out many people who don't need it, as they will not bother to reapply. Not so sure if this works or not. Then, once you have it they review your case every so

often (depending on the condition, some that aren't likely to ever get better may not have reviews), to see if you still need it. I was supposed to have a review in about two years. I didn't ever have one, and I told them in 2002 when I graduated college that I no longer needed it. If I had been reviewed, they would have seen that I didn't need it before then, but I was allowed to keep it until I graduated school. (There are some special type programs for education and other voc rehab type stuff). I don't know how necessary a lawyer is (like I said I was accepted my first time), but I would say it would be a good idea to get one if you are rejected twice for sure.
