Mortgage With One Bad "09" Entry On My Trans Union And Equifax?

Q: Can anyone give me some advice on the wheres and wherefores to get a mortgage with one bad "09" entry on my Trans Union and Equifax. TRW is clean. I can't get the 1 negative removed but not for lack of trying. The best they would do is report it settled. I don't want to get a mortgage with higher than the going rate for interest because an old girlfriend got a Visa in my name but never told me. That was three years ago. I don't know any other way to get that removed. The banks won't budge as far as getting a mortgage as long as that is on the reports. I have become an expert in collection agency tactics, credit reports, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A: -How far back is the most recent date of the bad entry? If it's more than a year or two ago, try to get the creater of the bad report to verify in writing all details of the transaction(s) involved, and that you are even linked to that account number. With any luck, they'll refuse because the transaction is no longer actively on their system, and it's too much trouble to bring it in off of the backup tapes. When you have their refusal, include it with a written notice to the mortgage broker or bank as proof that the creator of the bad report is unable to verify that the account has anything whatsoever to do with you, and therefore must be in error, and you in good faith did everything reasonably in your power to clarify the situation. Your mileage may vary, but it worked for me (student loan refinance mixup about six years ago vs. a local bank mortgage department.) It was much easier to get the original student loan suppliers to disavow

all knowledge of that account number than it would have been to explain the buy-outs of the loan that were involved, causing a bunch of payments to be late. -If you really had nothing to do with this Visa card; i.e., your old girlfriend got it without your knowledge or consent -- and presumably, therefore, without your signature on any account documents -- then you should be able to have any reference to it removed. Contact a lawyer. You may have to work through the credit card issuer rather than the credit agency to first have your name taken off the account records and then have the issuer notify the credit reporting agency that the credit report entry is incorrect.
