Info On Credit Card Regulations

Q: Cna anyone provide me with information regarding credit/collection companies responsibilties regarding harrasment and contact restrictions. My younger sister has been getting deluged with calls at work and at home regarding an overdue balance (she had recently become unemployed from a good paying job and now works near minimum wage while supporting a young child). Though she has explained to the company numerous times that she has no money, they repeatedly call at her place of work and home demanding to know when payment will be made. References to related websites would be most appreciated :)

A:Collection agencies have also knowingly entered into an agreement with the government to behave and not behave in certain ways. I'm not about to make a judgement of what this particular company is doing or if they are breaking the law. However she is entitled to know how she may/may not deal with them and how they may or may not deal with her - regardless of the fact that she entered into the debt knowling full well she would have to pay in a timely manner. To the original poster, try: http://www.qp.gov.ab.ca/Documents/REGS/1999_194.CFM and more generally http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/services/business/collection_agency.cfm (look under 'legislation"). General advice I see on pretty much any legal site: log ALL calls, don't tell them anything if you feel you are going to mount a case against them and most law firms will give a free consultation.
