Where Can GED Be Written At Age 16?
Q: My 15, almost 16, daughter is bored with school. I had her tested with
a pre-GED and she scored at 12.9 . However, she cannot write the GED in
Texas (and hence go to college) until she is 17. Does anyone know of a
state or province that allows the GED at 16, and what the residency
requirments might be?? What about leadds where I might find this ing
out, school counsellor or listserv?
A:You should get the kid out of school before they completely destroy
her.
Here in California the age to take the California High
school Proficiency Examination is 16. The CHSPE is counted
as the equivalent of a high school diploma in all respencts
in the state (I don't know if there is some sort of mutual
agreement among the states nor which, if any, would be
parties to this accord.) However, the CHSPE is not a GED.
In CA, it is considered superior to the GED, and is valid
for admission to all state Us and colleges. (Whether this
is the de facto case or not, I don't know. None of my kids
has ever had any trouble.)
My nephew took it by registering in CA from his
grandmother's house. He is German, born and reared. Passed
first time, as have all mine. You have to be in the 50th
percentile of all those who take the test on the day you do
to pass.
