What Are Pave Rings?

Pave rings are rings that include clusters of small stones down the sides of a ring band. If the word pave brings to mind something similar to the word pavement, it is for good reason. The way that the stones are arranged, with bits of precious metal separating them, make them look very much like the cobblestone pavements of times past. Having the stones so arranged in the midst of beautiful and precious metals, gives the ring additional sparkle and flair. Pave rings are among the most elegant and rich looking rings. And they can also be less expensive. The economy of pave rings has much to do with the fact that the stones (whether they be diamond or otherwise) are so small. They are rarely above a .15 or .2 in size, and so are quite inexpensive to jewelers and jewelry makers. Because they are so tiny, and their carat weight so small, the added weight of a few of them is often less than a single larger and more expensive stone. They can be bought in bulk, further lowering the price the jeweler pays, and therefore lowering the price paid by the purchaser. But for all that

they are much less expensive than a single larger stone they do look rather impressive. It looks very rich to have a few small diamonds sparkling and encrusting the band. Another way to make use of the more inexpensive quality of pave rings is to get a ring that has a center stone of something other than a diamond. By choosing an emerald, sapphire, garnet, or ruby, and then having pave diamonds on the side, one presents a strikingly unique ring that looks very elegant and impressive, but does not cost as much, as no gem costs so much as a diamond. Pave rings can make a very definite statement, and occasion comment merely because of their nature of appearing so sparkly and so affluent.
