The Art Of Florence Italy

Florence Italy is the birthplace of the Renaissance. Spurred on my the patronage of the ruling Medici family, Florence was the home of several Italian Renaissance master painters and sculptors, their artistic traditions influence all of Europe during the high period of the Renaissance. With a devotion to public art and a love of painting and architecture, the Medici were responsible for thousands of works of art throughout the centuries of their rule. Among the most famous of the Florence Italy artists are Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. These artists were responsible for a great number of religious pieces that can still be seen in the city today. Giotto’s frescos grace the walls of several Florentine chapels, and work marks the beginning of a more naturalistic period in religious painting. He was the precursor to Da Vinci and Michelangelo, and though he is less known in the mainstream, art historians consider him one of the most influential painters in history. Florence is also the home of Michelangelo’s sculptural masterpiece David. This larger than life statue once guarded the entrance to the city. Now it can be seen in the Galleria dell’Accademia in the heart of the city, and it is the most popular of all the city’s artistic attractions. Florence’s

other artistic master, Leonardo da Vinci, also has works that can be seen all over the city. The Uffizi has a large collection of some of da Vinci’s most popular works, like The Baptism of Christ and The Annunciation. In addition to the more famous artists of the Renaissance, Florence is also the home of many lesser artists’ works. The numerous galleries and museums of the city house some of the world’s most famous works of art, from Raphael to Botticelli and Titian. The architecture of the city is also like a museum in and of itself. Just by walking through the streets, you can see famous buildings designed by Bruneleschi, Michelangelo and other masters designers of the Renaissance.
