Switching To Broadband Phone Service

Broadband phone service is a way for people to talk on the phone over the Internet. Special phones are used to convert a person’s voice in digital information that can be passed through the Internet and then reinterpreted as sound on the other end. Broadband phone plans are not yet the norm, but they are destined to become the new way people communicate over the phone. Today, most broadband phone services are very inexpensive, and the do not make the rate distinction between local or long distance calls since everything is traveling digitally through the internet rather than actually covering a longer physical distance than local calls. The one drawback to broadband phone service is that you have to have a special type of phone that is made to covert voice into a medium that is IP compatible. If you do not have this type of phone, you may still be able to make calls via the internet straight from you computer, as long as you have microphone and a way to hear sound. Broadband phones, or voice over IP, phones make it much easier to conduct videoconferencing and regular conference calls. Because both the voice and video are traveling over the Internet, there are not as many problems

with synchronization, and the cost is much lower than paying for both things individually. Many regular telephone companies are getting in on the broadband phone market, including Verizon and AT&T. These companies are offering broadband plans in addition their regular landline and cell phone wares. Broadband phone service plans can often be cheaper than landlines, and they are quickly gaining popularity. Rather than maintaining and fixing physical power lines all over the country, phone companies will jump at the chance of converting their pesky power lines into Internet broadband space. Perhaps one day in the not too distant future, every single phone call will be digital.
