Sterling Silver Belly Button Ring, Piercing Newbie Considering Navel Piercing

Q: I'm considering getting a navel piercing. Aside from a little anxiety about the pain involved (although I had breast reduction surgery a year ago, so how bad could a piercing be?), I want to know where I can get a sterling silver ring with a butterfly charm on it? Any ideas? Also, any advice regarding going about getting the piercing and what it feels like would be most welcome!

A:If I were you I'd focus on getting a good pierce first and making sure it heals alright, then going on with the sterling silver jewlery. Alot of people don't recommend using sterling silver because it is one of the more reactive piercing materials when it come to being in contact with the fluids and tissues of fresh pierce. But when all is healed and done http://www.piercinglinks.com has many great links to jewlery suppliers, I'm sure you can find the jewlery you want there. Sterling Silver would be a no-no. You would need a material that is less likely to react badly with your body such as surgical stainless steel or niobium. If you check around at the local piercing shops you should find what you are looking for. Stainless Steel resembles sterling but it doesnt tarnish. That should be what you want. It is usually a piercing that takes quite a while to heal. It isnt all that bad, its over within a second or two. Talk to a piercer around your area. I got mine pierced 11months ago and love it. The actual piercing is not that bad.....I had a boob job too and on a scale of one to ten it was a ten.....the belly button...hmmmm....maybe a 3....LOL....its the healing process that hurts. I just now consider mine totally healed...they said it would take about 6 months....took

longer for me. You have to take very good care of it....keeping it clean and medicated several times a day. The other thing u have to consider is clothing....I had to buy lots of new shorts and jeans that wouldn't rub my belly button because it would irritate it so badly and then it would really hurt. I must tell you now that all is over I love and say yes it is worth it. In the FAQ it is mentioned that sterling is not at all appropriate for body piercings. Often, a new piercing will tarnish silver, leaving not only blackened silver, but also a permanent black spot on you. Surgical stainless steel (316L or 316LVM) is a better choice for silver-colored metal.
