So All Said, What Do YOU Think Causes YOUR Depression
Q: For me it feels like a learned behavior...thoughts or patterns I
adopted along the way to defend myself from life's pressures,
strengthened with each uncomfortable encounter or awkward interaction.
I personally think I was born with some bad wiring that exagerated my
distress or degree of despair related to emotionally painful stimuli
and my inappropriate responses reinforced time and again evolved into
depression by my early 20's. So I made a mountain out of a molehill,
a million times, and voila...
A:A strong family history along with childhood trauma started and
continued my depression throughout my childhood (from age 4?)
and adolescence. Then as an adult, this made me more susceptible
to side-effects from high-dose Prednisone treatments, which
triggered my current episode about 10 years ago. Now my
chemistry's completely screwed up and, after ten years post
Prednisone, they say it's not likely I'll fully recover.
combination of hereditary predisposition and acquired predisposition during
childhood (learned behaviours and "bad wiring" created by abuse at
developmental stages).
A stress overload, acting on a genetic predisposition. The latter
probably means that I now have it for life; that's what all my psychs
have said, certainly.
