Satellite Internet

Satellite internet is using a satellite dish for two communications with your computer in the form of uploading and downloading. Satellite internet download speeds are about 500kbs, which is slower than DSL or cable connections, but ten times faster than dialup. The upload rate is about one-tenth of the 500kbs. Despite the slower speeds, satellite internet is a good option for people living in areas that don't have access to broadband connections. In some countries, when satellite internet was introduced, the only capability was downloading. In other words, you were unable to uplink (or upload, send files) only receive files. Today, satellite internet has the capacity to do both. However, not all countries have added the capability to uplink. For example, in November 2004, the first two-way communicating satellite internet in Poland was introduced. Prior to the two-way communications, Poland was using satellite internet, but only on a download capacity. To

further the technology of satellite internet, one company is launching a test of "roaming satellite internet", which will allow people to access the internet while flying. The accessibility to roaming satellite internet could prove to be a major leap. Currently individuals who access the internet using the airlines access are charged hefty fees. Having satellite internet that roams would allow individuals to establish account and basically take it with them, wherever they might go, without the expensive charges. Satellite internet is still fairly new, but definitely one area of technology worth watching. Streamlining our daily lives will be a definite advantage to satellite internet.
