Progressive Auto Insurance

Progressive Auto Insurance has been doing things their own way since 1937. Their willingness to check on their competitors' rates and disclosing that information to their clients sets them apart from the pack. Progressive Auto Insurance is currently ranked third in the nation for auto insurance. In addition to being an innovator in the industry, Progressive Auto Insurance has a company policy of art appreciation. Progressive Auto Insurance maintains the Progressive Art Collection, which includes more than 6,000 works of contemporary art. The works are displayed in Progressive Auto Insurance offices nationwide in order to improve their employees' work environment. The collection focuses on, "emerging artists who create innovative and daring work." Not only has the art collection garnered many praises, honors and awards; but, Progressive Auto Insurance also receives requests to loan some of the works to major museums and nonprofit art centers. The Progressive Art Collection was created by Progressive Auto Insurance's former CEO,

Peter Lewis in the early 1970s. It began as a print collection. In 1985 Toby Devan Lewis helped create the Corporate Art Department for Progressive Auto Insurance. The creation of the Art Department helped transform the collection by including different forms of media and more cutting edge artists. Why would Progressive Auto Insurance choose to create an art collection? The art serves, "as a visual reminder of the importance and necessity of risk-taking and innovation at Progressive." Never underestimate the contribution an auto insurance company can make to society. Progressive Auto Insurance certainly goes beyond providing mere safety and security for their employees and their clients.
