Physical Education In The Elementary Schools
Q: I am looking for your assistance. Our school district may be in danger of
losing the elementary Physical education program. Currently, our students
get two periods of physical education per six day cycle. As a parent and
an educator, I am part of a group trying to present a proactive
presentation to the district. Anyone knowing of any supporting
information to help our case, could you please forward it to us.
A:Although I do not have any information for you I would like to
say that the physical education program in St. John's, Newfoundland is in
serious jeopardy as well. The school I had my internship at last year
had 2 p.e. classes per six day cycle. At the end of last year their p.e.
program was cut to one class per 6 day cycle since the school did not
have 400 students (they only had approximately 380). As a new teacher I
am concerned about the current trend. I would be interested in knowing
how things turn out for you and your school.
