Music Business Degree...

Q: anyone know what the hell I could do with one of these? or would this not help me get a job at all...

A:My friend Randy goes to Music Tech for Music Buisness. If you're into the stuff I think you're into you would not enjoy music buisness. If the sound and motion or music production areas at music tech don't interest you, you should check out MCAD. I have a couple other friends that go there and they really enjoy it. My friend Mitchell goes there for movie production (?) I think. The movies that he made this year during the school year were awesome. I'd definitely check it out if you're into that kinda stuff. You could manage, promote, or otherwise help market bands. You don't *need* a degree to do this, but you're more likely to get a successful, paid position with the degree. You could even, with tremendous luck and asskissing, get a job with one of the big record labels. a friend studied Music Business in New York, and had a job with Sony. Back home, in the Netherlands, he worked with Sony/Epic again, and now he works at Universal, I've heard. So, apart from it being a fantastic way to be a student, you can get a job with it as well :) I wish I had known about it years ago. Now i did law, and i don't know what kind of job I would like...

I studied music business at Northeastern Univ. in Boston for two years before I decided that I wasn't very good at kissing ass, and therefore wouldnt make it very far in the music biz... Of my friends who graduated with this degree, one works at Ticketmaster and most of the others have shitty desk jobs... It's not as glamorous as it sounds... Most music industry programs teach from the perspective of the major label and/or bands who are looking for superstardom... Basically, how to make money by "exploiting" your music. If you want to make music I would suggest Music Production, or Music Technology... If you want to make money, go for the Music Business degree.
