The types and styles of kids clothes has changed quite a bit in the past few decades. In addition to the increase of designer labels and name brands that offer kids clothes, the types of clothing available to kids has also changed somewhat. Many kids clothes have become unisex, meaning either gender can wear the items. This is a huge improvement over a few decades when it was definitive about what a girl should and should not wear, and same for the boy. Kids clothes have also improved in quality. Thanks to technology, kids clothes are more durable than they were even a decade ago. Technological advances in the clothing industry have manufacturers of kids clothes to create materials that are stain resistant. Another technological advance would be moisture and water resistant materials. Kids clothes made out of the moisture and water resistant materials are no long the uncomfortable nylon materials, but are softer and often resemble fleece or cotton. The style of kids clothes has also changed, somewhat. Although

there are the classic pieces such as the sweatpants for playwear, many designers and manufacturers of kids clothes are creating styles that resemble grown up clothes, while keeping kid elements such as fabrics, colors and ease of self dressing in mind. Three to four decades ago, it was common to have to have a special outfit sewn, as types and styles of kids clothes were limited. With the improvements and variety of availability, kids clothes can also be quite pricey. Designer labels often times run just as expensive as grown up clothing. However, due to the durability of today's fabrics, using consignment stores and internet sites to buy kids clothes is a good option to save money.
