Internet Advertising

Internet advertising is big business. Although to some of us it may seem like the internet is quite young, businesses caught on to the marketing possibilities of the internet early on, and by 1996 internet advertising had become common. These days most of us associate the internet with commerce. Many of us routinely buy products from internet web sites. It's easy and convenient and often we can get better prices than if we were to buy directly from our local store. So naturally businesses are trying to take advantage of the internet and market their products effectively online. The most basic internet advertising a company can have is their company website. This informs the public about their products and services. They may sell their products from their website or direct the consumer to a local store. But even with the best home page in the world, you still need people to see it for it to be effective. Many advertising agencies now have specialized campaigns designed specifically for online businesses. Internet advertising can include things such as email campaigns, banner ads, pop-up ads, etc. There are variations to each of these elements. For example there are different types of banners such as a static banner, animated banner or interactive banner. A rich media banner allows consumers to have more interactions, such as playing games. The other various types of

internet advertising include search engine web advertising, pop-up advertising, pop-under advertising, banner exchange advertising, online directory advertising, and link exchange advertising. There are multiple formats for internet advertising. Internet advertising combines aspects of both traditional mass media advertising with more personal one on one type selling. It is most effective when it prepares an online advertising strategy that combines both elements. The other challenge for internet advertising is to not disillusion the internet user by 'bothering' them too much, or being too annoying. Pop up ads and other unwelcome internet advertising techniques often just make people mad.
