How Often Do You Check Your Credit Report

Q: Is once a year enough? Or too much?

A: Once a year is fine, unless you suspect fraud or identity theft. You are entitled to one free credit report from each of the national credit reporting agencies per year. There are three national credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Get a 2007 calendar and on January 1 write, "Credit Report--Equifax". On May 1 write, "Credit Report--Experian". On September 1 write, "Credit Report--TransUnion." You can keep an eye on your credit report all year for free by staggering the requests every four months. .
