False Sexual Harassment Consequences
Q: Anyone happen to know what the consequences are for someone filing false sexual
harassment charges?
A:It's pretty difficult to ever prove such a thing -- as long as there's
no admission by the accuser. Classic example of one person's word
against another's.
As Peg so correctly stated, it's the reputation of the accusee that
takes the beating no matter the truth or falsity of the allegations.
In Richard Callaghan's case, however, it seems his reputation is doing
fairly well. Does anyone agree?
There was a recently widely publicized case where several sixth-graders
were arrested for making what police determined, after an investigation,
to be a fabricated story against their teacher. I believe that some
states have laws that criminalize false accusations, but I would think
that there would have to be evidence of malice aforethought or deliberate
fabrication involved that would come out in an investigation.
