Distance Learning University ?
Q: In view of the recent case that 1 university does not have "license" from MOE, how do we check the distance learning programme offer by the University through institues center such as MDIS, Informatics, Auston is recognised and approved by MOE ? I visited MOE website but unable to find the page.
A: Registration with MOE does not mean accreditation or approval. Please see MOE website under Private Schools. Find out if the Univ. concerned is licensed in its own country to grant degrees. Finally, choose a Univ. that is known e.g. Univ. of London, Leicester, etc. to be safe. Call 1800-TEACHER if you need more info. May I ask, then why need to register in the first place if it doesn't mean anything? Won't it be the same for other countries? I mean other country MOE or whatever educational board might also issue a license or need some kind of registration by the school and it too does not mean accredition or approval? So, what is the point of asking? Check MOE website. My guess is, they want them to register to track and make sure they do no harm. Just like slimming centres. They don't approve or accredit them. Check with PSC about universities and they won't tell you directly if they are recognised or not. Better to make an informed choice - research their programs and their standing in their own countries. Of course choose a univ. that is known. UWA, Univ. of Leicester, London, etc. Commercial schools in S'pore e.g. Informatics, Hartford are OK. They are also listed on SGX. If interested, I can get you in touch with them. Just few years ago, MOE wanted control the number of degree courses to be conducted in Singapore. Only the two universities and Open U could conduct degree courses. Most courses
