Could I Have Some Examples Of Sexual Harrasment In The Workplace?

Q: Could i have some examples of sexual harrasment in the workplace? Looking for things that are not necessarily directed at you. Lots of sex talk and girls in very low cut shirts and high high heels bending over desks ? things like this go on where i work. would this be considered harrasment ?

A: Sexual harassment is not allowed in the workplace. Certain things such as touching parts of the body such as the breasts, butt, etc are not allowed and first offenders can be terminated from employment immediately. Gestures and inviting comments are also not welcomed however for it to be harassment, you must let the person know that such comments are not welcomed. If you let the person or even your employer know that you do not appreciate this and it continues, then it is considered harassment and the individual and employer can be held liable. Telling sexual related jokes are not acceptable in the workplace and are often offensive to whoever can hear them. Appropriate attire needs to be reinforced. Wearing open blouses that expose part of the breasts or mini skirts that reveal the buttocks or groin area is not acceptable and those dressing as such should be told to cover these areas appropriately. Most employer's should have dress codes, if they don't and you let them know whats offensive, they must correct the situation or they could also be held liable. Remember that touching and direct insults are not tolerable under any conditions. You need to either let the individuals know or your employer know about the other things you find offensive and if such is not corrected, could constitute as sexual harassment and the individuals and employer can be held liable. Sexual harassment occurs between females and males, males and females, males and males, and females and females. Some examples are: - you boss asks you to join him for dinner and an evening out and if you do it, it will help your career. - Your co-worker continually bends over in front of you and exposes her buttocks. You tell her this offends you, she continues to do so. - You co-worker always exposes part of her breasts, you tell her this offends you, she continues to do so - One male worker tells another he likes his body and

would like to go out with him, he tells him he is not interested and that such an invite offends him, the other male continues asking (same situation with female to female) - Your co-worker tells sexually oriented jokes to others and you can hear, you tell them this offends you, they continue telling sexual jokes (likewise with sex talk) - Other workers hang nude or half nude boy or girl calanders up in the office, you let them know this offends you, they do not remove the calanders I highly recommend you bring this to managements attention and have someone trained in this area provide on-site training. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission also has training video's available.
