COMPUTER TRAINING COURSES

Q: Many of us would like to know throughout the UK what courses are available and what they offer. I have created a very simple Access database structure which could be used and hosted on somebody's website so that those of us who need training know where to look. If anybody is interested, I can send the basic database to them - it obviously can be amended. Maybe the person who agrees to host this database can persuade other members of this newsgroup to fill in details on this database for the benefit of people wishing to know what is available in the UK.

A:-As far as I am aware Demon do not offer database enabling of any kind on their "home pages" (the free web space). To use Access over the Web requires something like Active Server Pages, Cold Fusion or some similar technology to have its enabling software active on the server. If anyone can tell me where there is a UK ISP that offers IIS on an NT server I'd be very interested. -Because my website does not cover Computer Training Schemes - I just thought it would be very helpful to people like myself (and others) if there was a database available somewhere so that if I lived (say) in Somerset and wanted to learn (say) Dreamweaver/Basic HTML/XTML/Access/Paintshop Pro/FrontPage/Ventura/ asp/ cgi/ C/C++/Pascal/ or whatever, I (or somebody else) could find out what was available, what software was used, whether the course was full or just a part-time "brush-up", whether the course could be offered at a reduced

rate for those people currently unemployed and on a re-training scheme via their local JobCentre - or a business start-up scheme, etc. etc. There is a new scheme being made available for the over 50s which helps them re-train and gives funds towards re-training. (See below) It would be incredibly helpful if a database such as I've tried to outline was available - and more importantly, was known about by job counsellors at the local Jobcentres plus whomsoever is in charge of the new 50+ scheme due to start in April. The organisation is called Employment Service (Serving People through Jobcentres) - an Executive Agency of the Department for Education and Employment.
