50’s Fashion Blast From The Past

No, poodle skirts are not back in. But other hallmarks of 50’s fashion are. The flowing skirts that emphasize femininity are back, as society begins to take another look at the advantages of looking like a woman. Some of the styles that emphasize curves are also back. Charm bracelets (albeit in a newer form) have also enjoyed a resurgence, as have tight shirts that cover the midriff, mysteriously revealing the womanly form beneath even while concealing it. The soft, flowing styles of 50’s fashion in dresses have been reappearing over the last few years, encouraging women to remember what it is like to “be a lady.” While they do not look exactly the same, the classic influence is there—in the material, the lines and the look. Additionally, the skirts are long again, falling to just above the calf to emphasize the natural shapeliness of a woman’s leg. Other 50’s fashion staples have also returned. The charm bracelet is once again a popular accessory, although it has taken on a different form. Finally, the shirts are returning to a more demure length. The midriff baring shirts of the early years of the 21st Century are slowly being replaced by tight shirts that show no flesh, but reveal the elegant and graceful curves. In fact, paired with one of the flowing skirts, one of these fitted tees adds to the illusion that the woman wearing might possible have just stepped out of a page from a 50’s fashion magazine. The women of the 50’s may not exactly recognize a fashionable woman of today, but the look would seem familiar.
